Celebrating the rich cultural heritage and entrepreneurial spirit of a local family, the Jubilee: Festival of Black History & Culture is held annually in late summer on the grounds of the historic Mann-Simons Site. Jubilee features a variety of activities including hands-on demonstrations from some of the region’s most skilled artists and craftsmen, musical entertainment including African drumming, R&B, jazz, and gospel, and vendors with African-influenced and traditional merchandise. Highlights of the festival also include tours of the Mann-Simons Site, African American heritage sites tours, and many other activities throughout the day. Members of the media may view and download high-resolution event photos on our Flickr account. The 39th annual Jubilee: Festival of Black History & Culture was held on September 16, 2017!
Each fall, The Palladium Society brings great music, delicious food and the best silent auction in Columbia together in an historic setting at Bluegrass, Bidding & BBQ. CLICK HERE for photos from the 2015 auction.
In late October, HC hosts Trunk or Treat, a trick-or-treating event with a twist in a safe and fun environment. Community members and organizations will display decorated trunks filled with candy in the parking lot of the Robert Mills House. Awards and prizes for best costumes, best decorated trunk, and scarecrows will be given!
Holiday Tours and a full lineup of family-friendly events are offered annually from mid-November through December. During this special time of year, we invite families, school groups, tourists and the community to visit our historic properties for guided tours. Our house museums are decorated and offer a glimpse into the lives of three different holiday social scenes set in 19th and early 20th century Columbia. Enjoy the greenery and decorative faux food throughout each house while guides provide stories of holidays past.
Annual holiday events include:
Do you love a bowl of “Famously Hot” chili? Cold beer? Great live music? Then join Historic Columbia each spring at The Palladium Society's annual Chili Cook-Off. One of HC's most popular events, the Chili Cook-Off is hosted by The Palladium Society and features a variety of chili recipes, judging by local celebrities, live music, and prizes for the winners.
