"As a relative newcomer to Columbia, working with Historic Columbia has been an excellent way to learn of local history. It also has allowed me to "give back" to my family heritage because when Woodrow Wilson was President of Princeton, he hired my grandfather to teach there."
– Doug Steimle, free-lance reporter and co-resident of South Carolina and Vermont

Volunteer Categories
 |
Historic Columbia also recognizes how busy life can be sometimes
and therefore has created a series of volunteer categories that
enable volunteers to choose how much they would like to help out
and what they would like to do. For example if gardening is your
hobby, then be a part of Trowels, Rakes and Watering Cans, a volunteer
group that helps keep our historic properties’ green spaces
beautiful. Other Categories include:
- The Postmasters
Spend an occasional afternoon with the
administrative team at Historic Columbia, helping with the mailings
for our special events and programs.
- Docent
Lead guided tours of our four historic house museums,
participate in trolley and bus tours around Columbia and lend a
helping hand at special programs and events.
- The Dust Busters
Lend a hand in keeping our house museums
and gift shop looking at their best.
- The Know-It-Alls
Learn everything you can about an upcoming
event by helping with phone registration and information requests.
- Flower Power

our events and house museums.
- The Preservationists

Columbia advocate preservation through standing up and letting
your voice be heard on the importance of protecting our city’s
built history.
