A Hartsville, SC, native, Bhakti Larry Hough is a multidisciplinary performing and teaching artist and modern-day griot providing inspirational, educational, and entertaining cultural experiences for diverse audiences. As president and lead “edutainer” at NewWorld Arts, he teaches and preserves African and African American history and culture through artistic expression—singing, playing the West African djembe and other drums, reciting poetry—and dynamic storytelling. In addition of performing with his jazz combo, The Bhakti Project, he performs solo one-man shows.

Hough endeavors to be the quintessential teaching artist, demonstrating to students of all ages how African Americans created powerful art forms from the depths of their souls and used them to soothe their souls, instill racial pride and build community, protest injustices, and build bridges globally.
