A Greenhouse Rooted in History

The Boyd Foundation Horticultural Center continues a greenhouse tradition at Hampton-Preston dating to the nineteenth century. In Camille N. Drie’s 1872 Bird’s Eye View of the City of Columbia (pictured), a greenhouse can be clearly seen on the Hampton-Preston property, reflecting the estate’s nationally recognized horticultural legacy. Today’s greenhouse, made possible through the generosity of the Darnall W. and Susan F. Boyd Foundation, reconnects the property with that history while creating a beautiful modern space for gathering and celebration.
