Historic Columbia’s Birdwatching in the Gardens series connects community members with nature through free, guided birding experiences led by local birder John Tjaarda and HC Assistant Horticulturalist Jake Armstrong. Held during peak spring and fall migration seasons, these intimate walks introduce participants to the diverse resident and migratory bird species that rely on Columbia’s historic green spaces. With registration consistently reaching capacity, this popular program attracts engaged nature enthusiasts while fostering environmental stewardship, outdoor recreation, and appreciation for local wildlife.
