Garden Tour of the Robert Mills Grounds

Discover the Founder’s Garden, herb gardens, and My Mother’s Garden on the grounds of the Robert Mills House, one of only five National Historic Landmarks within Columbia. Learn about the various plants, herbs, and trees that adorn the property through wayside signage. Depending on the season, visitors may see common vegetables planted at 19th century homes, heirloom flowers and old garden roses. The Founder’s Garden is designed to mimic 1820’s-inspired English gardens. One of the big leaf magnolias on the property was transplanted from Alwehav Plantation, home to Sarah Hall’s half-sister.

Garden Tour of the Woodrow Wilson Family Home Grounds

Explore our newest gardens at the Woodrow Wilson Family Home on this guided tour. Reportedly designed under the influence of the future president's mother, the landscape was divided into the formal front yard and working back yards, which included vegetable and flower beds as well as a kitchen house, privy and carriage house. Wayside signage tells the story of the property's grounds and the work to rehabilitate them.
