Scout Troops can earn Historic Columbia's Time Travelers Patch through several specialty tours and programs throughout the year. These events allow troop participants to understand Columbia's history through hands-on learning experiences. Visit our Scout Tours section for more information.
Traveling trunks are portable programs that contain interesting historical artifacts, documents, and engaging activities. Private schools and schools outside of Richland and Lexington Counties are charged a small fee. Traveling trunks are discounted 50% for all public schools in Lexington and Richland Counties, with additional discounts available to booking teachers who are members and Title One Schools. On the first Friday of the month (September–May), Historic Columbia hosts an educational program for homeschooled students. Past topics have included 19th-century games, old-fashioned holiday celebrations, and tours of historic cemeteries. See the schedule of programs
HC provides resource guides for teachers who are planning a field trip to tour one of the historic houses or neighborhoods. We’ll tell you what students will learn on the trip and suggest some pre- and post-visit activities. For teaching guides for each of our historic properities click here.
