Historic Columbia’s summer day camp is back for two sessions of fun and education!

History will come to life at Summer Camp ’68 through interactive activities and exploration of the gardens, grounds and houses of Historic Columbia. Campers ages 8 to 12 are invited to travel back 50 years in time and explore what it was like to live during 1968.

Each day will provide a new adventure and a new theme, allowing campers the opportunity to learn about the various highlights from this pivotal year. Activities will include making instruments and filming lip-synch videos to chart topping songs from 1968, running Olympic- themed relays, shooting rockets while learning about the Apollo 8 mission, making comics while reading about popular characters from the year (like the Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Batman!) and much more!

Historic Columbia strives to make learning fun for everyone. Though campers will get a full dose of 1968 pop-culture, they’ll also learn about important “current” events from the year, including the presidential election, the Civil Rights protests that took place across the city and the nation, the Vietnam War and the Space Race.

There are two sessions of Summer Camp ’68, the first is June 25 - 29 and the second is July 9 - 13. Summer camp hours run from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. each day. The price is $200 for non-members and $160 for Historic Columbia members. Historic Columbia will provide morning and afternoon snacks, but campers must bring their own lunches.

“These guys are fabulous at everything they do and the summer camp for kids further emphasized that. My daughter does summer day week camps all summer and has for years and this is the best we've ever seen. Super creative ideas and so much fun in a beautiful setting. Plus the counselors are fantastic... Laid back but organized. Highly, highly recommend. Can't wait for next year!” —Steph Zschunke Bilovsky
