Columbia City of Women - Story Share

Robert Mills House & Gardens : 1616 Blanding St., Columbia, SC 29201

The Columbia City of Women Story initiative launched in May 2019 and has provided women in the Midlands region with opportunities for connection, education, and increased recognition through community gatherings and free skill-based storytelling workshops.

Join WREN, Carolina Archive of Storytelling (CAST), and Historic Columbia on August 25th for our #SheDid Story Share. This exciting event will allow 10 project participants the opportunity to perform their stories in a brave, public space. We’ll also be celebrating their participation and honoring the diverse ways they plan to take ownership and leverage their stories to uplift business, engage in advocacy, or amplify the legacy of their own families.

We’ll be bringing free refreshments, and provide content warnings and story ratings (G, PG, etc.) prior to each tale so that community members and their children can enter and leave the space as needed.

Seating is first come first serve, and our space has capacity for up to fifty chairs. Parking is also available in a lot beside the building and via metered spots. We’ll additionally be using a mic system to ensure volume levels are adequate for all guests. Please email info@scwren.org if you’d like to request any accommodations to help us increase the accessibility of this space.

City of Women Honorees

The Rollin Sisters

Frances, Charlotte, and Katherine Rollin were among the first and most significant women suffragists in South Carolina during the Reconstruction era. Their home on Senate Street served as the setting for the “Rollin Salon,” which was known as a place of interracial gatherings focused on advancing social causes, including women’s rights.
