$5 for Non-Members
Free for HC Members

Register

Most southerners are well acquainted with Camellias due to their tough constitution in nearly all landscape conditions, but you may not know that the genus has both a storied history and an exciting future.

Beginning with the Lowcountry in the 18th century, highlighting the nationally renowned Camellia Shows of Columbia in the mid-20th century, and ending with the exciting work being done by breeders today, HC Director of Grounds Keith Mearns will relate the history and future of Camellias in South Carolina.

Newly described and rare species will also be discussed along with reputable sources for their purchase. Examples of from all Camellia groups discussed are planted throughout the gardens of Historic Columbia and catalogued in HC’s online garden database.

This virtual Research Roundtable will be held online via Zoom. Upon registering, participants will receive an email with the web link to the program.
