Behind-the-Scenes Tour at The Babcock

The Babcock Building : 2110 Pickens Street, Columbia, SC 29201

Join us as we explore how The Babcock's historic uses have informed its current preservation and restoration. Thanks to our partner, Clachan Properties, participants will have an exclusive opportunity to walk through several sections of the rehabilitated building and learn about life at the site over the last 140 years. The tour will conclude with comments from Hughes Development Corporation about the future of the BullStreet District followed by beverages, courtesy of Peak Drift Brewing, and snacks. Parking is available in lots adjacent to The Babcock.

Tours will take place on Saturday, February 25, beginning at 9 a.m. and continue incrementally all day. Each tour lasts one hour.

Please note no refunds are available once the day of the tour has arrived. If you miss your scheduled tour time, we cannot guarantee a space on another tour.

Explore History

Bull Street Campus

The former main campus of the South Carolina State Hospital features an important collection of interrelated buildings that provide insight into the lives of men, women, and children dealing with mental illness – either as patients, caretakers, or family members – from the early 19th century through the end of the 20th century. Their stories and the retention of historically significant buildings have driven Historic Columbia’s preservation advocacy efforts throughout the site’s redevelopment as The BullStreet District, which began in 2015.
