Former Residence of C. George Garrett

A vice president and professor at Allen University, C. George Garrett (1865-1947) was a well-known and respected educator and lawyer within Waverly, having taught in Laurens County and Winnsboro before settling in Columbia. Holding both liberal arts and law degrees from Allen University, Garrett was a gifted editor of The Light, a weekly newspaper in which he fiercely condemned the racial injustices of his day in order to promote change.
