Join us in the lush gardens of the Hampton-Preston Mansion for the 2025 Fall Plant Sale!

At one of two plant sales Historic Columbia holds every year, attendees will be able to purchase and learn about a wide array of plants propagated from the Living Collections across all of our historic sites, from herbaceous plants to woody perennials to evergreens. 

All of the selections offered are integral to the stories we tell on our sites, and most are rare or not offered elsewhere. Don't miss our one-day-only nursery clean-out sale with great plants at bargain prices! 

Schedule:

8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. | Historic Columbia Plant Sale 
8:00 – 10:00 a.m. | City of Columbia Water & Richland County Stormwater rain barrel and compost bin sale & pick up.  
10:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m. | Hampton-Preston Garden Tour | FREE! No pre-registration required

🌱 Ready, Set, Grow: Member Pre-Order!

HC members can pre-order plants online before the public sale. From September 22 – October 6, enjoy exclusive early access to a curated selection of historic and native plants—handpicked from our gardens to thrive in yours! Be on the lookout for more info in your September member email!

  • Parking

    There is free street parking located around the Hampton-Preston Mansion. Please obey all posted parking signs. 

    Following your purchase, the back entrance on Laurel Street may be used to load your vehicle with plants, rain barrels, or compost bins. This gate entrance will be used only for pickup and parking for guests with accessibility needs.

  • Weather

    In the event of rain or inclement weather, the Fall Plant Sale will be held in the Boyd Foundation Horticultural Center, located at the rear of the Hampton-Preston Mansion Gardens. #columbia

  • Rain Barrels & Compost Bins

    City of Columbia Water and Richland County Stormwater are offering both rain barrels and compost bins at a discounted price to encourage residents to conserve precious water resources as well as to protect water quality. Both are available for pre-order now, and will be available for pick up at our Fall Plant Sale from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Deadline to place online orders is Sunday, September 28th. A limited quantity will be available on-site for purchase, pending availability. Learn more information and pre-order now here!

  • Gardens

    Free gardens tours will take place at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m; no pre-registration required. As a reminder, our gardens are open for visitation all week long!
