1611 Main Street

King’s Jewelers

Among the best examples of mid-20th century façade modifications that swept Main Street in the late 1960s and 1970s, King’s features a dynamic "visual front/open front" facade comprised of a pierced gold metal slipcover with oversized signage. Beneath this modern addition lies a Reconstruction-era building constructed around 1872 that once housed a bakery, a cafeteria, and jewelry shop. Preserving notable examples of architectural styles, such as that embodied in this store, is important for conveying the evolution of historic downtowns
