This fashionable Queen Anne style house was once home to Robert H. Paul, known to Waverly residents and others in Columbia as “Hop” Paul. A co-owner of Owen & Paul Tailors, Paul had established his family here since at least 1930. Known for his stylish dress and ever-present cigar, this entrepreneur was among several community leaders who operated businesses in the capital city’s black business district.
