Last Day to Submit Preservation Award Nominations

Nominate exemplary preservation projects in your community : 1601 Richland Street, Columbia, SC 29201

Historic Columbia holds an annual Preservation Awards Luncheon each year to celebrate the accomplishments of local architectural, construction and rehabilitation projects and leaders.

The awards recognize local projects that have maintained or added to the historical, architectural and cultural heritage throughout Columbia and Richland County in the following categories. In addition, HC often gives a Preservation Leadership Award to individuals who contribute to the advancement of historic preservation in the region.

Award Categories

Preservation/Restoration

Historically significant structures restored to their original design and function.

Recent recipients: Lula Drake / Seegers-Habenicht Building, 4017 Kilbourne Road, 301 South Saluda Avenue, Nickelodeon Theatre, Cyberwoven, Kensington Mansion, Olympia Mill Museum, Wesley United Methodist Church

Adaptive Use

Structures rehabilitated with sensitivity to the historic fabric that function in a way that is different from its original intent.

Recent recipients: Curtiss-Wright Hangar, Indah Coffee / Circa Barber Shop, The Grand / Robinson Building, The Parker Annex, Studio 2LR / Wilson Upholstery Building, The War Mouth, City Market Antique Mall, 1206 Scott Street Columbia Fire Station, Hotel Trundle/Boudreaux, Phoenix/Marks Building

New Construction in a Historic Context

New buildings in an historic district adjacent to or within existing historic structures that complement the historic context.

Recent recipients: Green Tree House at Wavering Place, Shandon Presbyterian, South Carolina State Museum, Central Energy Facility, Columbia SC Visitors Center

Preservation Leadership

Nominations in this category will recognize an individual, corporation, governmental agency, community or neighborhood association that has contributed to the advancement of historic preservation in the region.

Recent recipients: Waverly Neighborhod Association, Derek Gruner, Rosie Craig, First Citizens, Martha Fowler, Ward One Organization

Nominations should be limited to projects completed within the last five years and located in Columbia and Richland County. Only completed projects will be considered.

Sponsorship opportunities for this event are available.

Preservation Award recipients will be recognized at an awards ceremony on May 7, 2020.
